| | | | Gen-Y Cops (Action) (2000) (AKA Metal Mayhem) Director: Benny Chan Cast: Edison Chen, Stephen Fung, Sam Lee, Maggie Q (co-starring), Paul Rudd, Mark Hicks, Richard Sun, Christy Chung. Synopsis: RS1, an attack robot designed for the US military, is shipped to Hong Kong for an international weapons convention. Local cops Match (Stephen Fung), Alien (Sam Lee) and Edison (Edison Chen) are given the job of liaising with an FBI team send to guard this lethal weapon. RS1 is stolen, and it seems that Edison is responsible. He is forced to go on the run, with FBI agents Ian Curtis (Paul Rudd), Ross Tucker and Jane Quigley (Maggie Q) in pursuit. Match and Alien must prove his innocence, while themselves staying out of the line of fire. It transpires that the murderous machine's creator, Kurt (Richard Sun) is behind the robbery. In an explosive finale, Kurt and metallic alter ego take to the streets of Hong Kong... Q notes: "This was one tough, but very rewarding shoot. It was originally supposed to be much more of a 'Hong Kong' film. Then an American company, Regent Entertainment, came in to co-produce it, meaning that it needed to be more international. On the set, there was a constant dynamic, creatively, between the demands of the local industry and those of the international market. I learned so much working with Paul Rudd, who is this wonderful stage actor, and was very generous in terms of sharing his experience and technique when we prepared for our scenes. I really like the dialogue scene we have in the hospital, where we really go head to head. I was very nervous, working with Paul. His last film was 'The Cider House Rules' and mine was 'Model From Hell', for God's sake! After we finished 'Gen-Y Cops', I saw Paul acting opposite Jessica Lange in Eugene ON'eills'Long Day's Journey Into Night', in London's West End, and he was awesome. He's now a regular on Friends and is doing just great. 'Gen-Y' was also my first time doing action scenes, working with Jackie Chanís stunt team, who taught me so much. I actually rehearsed more action than was shot and I shot stuff that wasnt' in the final print. I wish wed 'been allowed to put together a really good DVD, because there' so much additional material. We could have done a great DVD commentary, especially with all the behind-the-scenes stories!' <Back> |
